ENTREVISTA
¿Quieres decirnos tu nombre?
Maryanne Villalba

¿Cuántos años tienes?
Tengo 42 años.

¿País de nacimiento?
Australia

ENTREVISTA ORIGINAL
Would you like to tell us your name?
Maryanne Villalba

How old are you?
I'm 42 years young

What country are you born?
Australia

Where do you live now?
We live in Mackay, Queensland. A gorgeous part of the country on the doorstep of the Great Barrier Reef.

When did you start with this hobby?
About four years ago

How did you start?
I got interested in beading after doing a couple of introductory beading classes at a local store. I loved it that much that I kept exploring the craft and expanding my knowledge to where I am today.

Who are three artists who inspire you the most?
Oh wow, there are so many talented Bead Artists out there that I greatly admire, do I have to pick just three? LOL I think I'm going to give you more than three. OK, I guess the first Bead Artists that really inspired me to take my beading to another level were Sherry Serafini & Heidi Kummli - their work is amazing, and I've learnt so much about Bead Embroidery and design because of them. Other inspiring Artists include Betty Stephen, Patrizia Tager, Kerrie Slade ... not to mention the wonderful Bead Artists we have here in Australia - Caroline Fung, Lauren Elise, Bianca Velder, Vicki Smith, to name but a few. All these artists inspire me to stretch my abilities, go outside my comfort zone, and try new things.

How many hours a week do you dedicate to this hobby?
Not enough LOL - with three children, study, working, keeping house, and all the other stuff that comes with being a mum, there just aren't enough hours in the day to do this as well. Generally I try and get into my craft room at least 2-3 times a week. But I always have a sketch book available and when I have an idea, or get some inspiration, I sketch it down so I can look back at it later.

Is this more than your hobby? Is it your job?
I wish it was my full-time job, oh that would be a dream come true ... but, alas, for the moment it's a hobby.

What other hobbies do you have?
I've always been arty so I love painting and drawing.

Would you like to tell us a little bit more about you?
Ever since I can remember, I have always loved my crafts and have been “arty” – never settling on one, but exploring many … until I discovered the wonderful world of beading and Wearable Art. Inspiration for my pieces come from many sources, but often nature plays a big part in my creative process. I have a great love for the ocean, and often find solace in going to the beach or driving up to a Lookout and looking out at the crashing waves and listening to the sounds of the ocean and feeling the wind against my face. Often too, inspiration can come from participating in a challenge, or seeing something on TV, or looking in history books.
