ENTREVISTA
¿Quieres decirnos tu nombre?
Abby Hook

ENTREVISTA ORIGINAL
Would you like to tell us your name?
Abby Hook

How old are you?
Older than I feel LOL

What country are you born?
England

Where do you live now?
At the foot of the Peak District in Derbyshire, UK

When did you start with this hobby?
When I was a small child, my passion for jewellery making has developed over the years into what you see today.

How did you start?
I was bought a bead weaving loom one Christmas. I spent hours and hours sorting out a mixed bag of seed beads that came with it into their colour groups! I could happily have sat there for days playing with all of those beads and instantly knew that I had found something that I loved. I began with bead weaving and simple strung necklaces, which lead onto rosary chains and simple wire wrapped pendants. That was when I discovered the potential wire gives to jewellery design and the possibility that you can create anything your brain can dream up!!

Who are three artists who inspire you the most?
Eni Oken
Susan Seddon Boulet
Mother Nature

How many hours a week do you dedicate to this hobby?
Way too many, I would guess over 50 hours a week on average!

Is this more than your hobby? Is it your job?
I took the decision to turn my lifelong hobby into my fulltime occupation over a year ago and although it is very hard work, juggling creating, writing and teaching I don’t regret it for a minute and haven’t looked back.

What other hobbies do you have?
I love cooking and have, in recent years, become very interested in pickling and preserving. I also enjoy gardening and growing my own fruit and veggies. I am also a keen walker and make sure I go out for a bit of a ramble at least once a week (when I can tear myself away from making jewellery!).

Would you like to tell us a little bit more about you?
I have always loved working with semi precious stones and wire, for many years I have experimented with different ways of combining the two. My jewellery making has been influenced by the designer Eni Oken who has helped me to harness the natural beauty of the stones and compliment them with silver wire work.
Each piece has lots and lots of hand coiled wire, no glue or solder is used just ancient methods of coiling and weaving.
I now divide my time between making jewellery and writing tutorials for my designs. I am also a freelance writer for The Guild of Master craftsmen and have had several projects published in 'Making Jewellery' magazine.
I am constantly on the hunt for new inspiration and fresh ideas and my current adventure is into the world of 3D wire construction.
