ENTREVISTA
¿Quieres decirnos tu nombre?

ENTREVISTA ORIGINAL
Would you like to tell us your name?
My name is Zsuzsanna Tóth, but my friends call me Zsuzsi.

How old are you?
I'm going to be 42 this year.

Where were you born?
I was born and raised in rural Hungary.

Where do you live now?
I still live in a small Hungarian town called Gödöllő. It's not far from the Hungarian capital.

When did you start this hobby?
I started making beaded jewellery about 7-8 years ago.

How did you start?
I was going through a rough patch in my life and was looking for something to give me direction. I started sorting through my drawers and cupboards and came across some old beads in a paper bag that I bought when I was about 20 and never used. I thought beads that weren't strung couldn't be “happy beads”, and I had to do something about it. I started putting them on some fish-line and somehow my hands seemed to know what they were doing. Soon I was making all sorts of jewellery with Right Angle Weaving – a stitch that I discovered on my own. But even RAW has its limitations, and there was a point when I realised I needed to learn more. I bought some books but the most help I got from Arduinna, who taught me most of what I know.

Who are three artists who inspire you the most?
Every beader I come across inspires me, but the one artist I can thank most is without a question Arduinna. I will always be grateful to her. The other two artists who have probably had the most influence on my work are Ann Benson and Marcia DeCoster.

How many hours a week do you dedicate to this hobby?
It depends on how much work I've got, but I usually do approximately 10-12 hours of beading a week. A day that passes by without me touching a bead is not a happy one.

Is this more than your hobby? Is it your job?
No, beading is not my job, even though I do sell a few of my patterns.

What other hobbies do you have?
I have a small dog who takes up a lot of my time. I also like reading, travelling, swimming. I can knit, crochet, embroider, and do macramé. I love sudoku.

Would you like to tell us a little bit more about you?
I'm a teacher of English and Mathematics by profession. I used to train English teachers at a Hungarian university. Then ten years ago I received an offer I couldn't resists and since then I've been writing stories for the most popular Hungarian television soap.
