ENTREVISTA
¿Quieres decirnos tu nombre?

ENTREVISTA ORIGINAL
Would you like to tell us your name?
My name is Peter Sewell also known as Beadsage.
How old are you?
I am 56 years old, and male.
What country are you born?
I was born on the outskirts of Manchester in England.
Where do you live now?
I now live in Wakefield, a city in West Yorkshire England.
When did you start with this hobby?
I started beadweaving in January 2007, although I had strung a few pieces and made a few earrings previously.
How did you start?
I started beading as a challenge. I had just done an Art course in which I painted colourful abstracts onto large canvasses, and the idea of ‘having a go’ at an art form so intricate fascinated me – it didn’t take long to get hooked!
Who are three artists who inspire you the most?
I have been inspired by many beadweavers, it is apparent in my work that I am greatly influenced by Russian and Eastern European beadwork, I love the opulence and detail applied to the design. My three choices for early inspiration would be Varvara Konstantinov, Laura McCabe, and Christine Prussing.
How many hours a week do you dedicate to this hobby?
I bead most of the time, but a lot of this is ‘design experiment’ rather than actually making something!
Is this more than your hobby? Is it your job?
I used to sell beads, finished work, and kits online, and I taught beadweaving workshops, but illness has made it difficult to put the time in to do this recently. I am looking forward to getting back to doing this as a job soon!
What other hobbies do you have?
My other hobbies include Blackwork, Painting, Music, and Reading.
Would you like to tell us a little bit more about you?
Being a man in this predominately female environment presents me with more of a challenge to prove myself. I use crystals a lot in my designs, and tend to go for gold and silver themes to compliment them. When I get an idea for a design I have to get the ‘female’ input from Nina - my wife – otherwise I go completely over the top and make something unwearable!
I enjoy being part of the beading world, it is a stark contrast from my old life, in which I spent 12 years in the British Army, drove large trucks, owned large motorcycles, and lived a rock n roll lifestyle! I still try to live the rock n roll lifestyle, but much more slowly these days!
