ENTREVISTA ORIGINAL
Would you like to tell us your name?
Jennifer Smith-Righter of Wearable By Design

How old are you?
Older than I'd like to be.

What country are you born?
USA

Where do you live now?
USA -- California

When did you started with this hobby?
I started making jewelry full time about 7 or so years ago.

How did you started?
I had taken a jewelry fabrication class as an elective while in Architecture school. I loved it and went back to making jewelry when I got out of school.

Who are three artists who inspire you the most?
I adore this man's work: Jason Marchiafava
http://www.jfava.com/
Celie is a fabulous artist: Celie Fago
www.celiefago.com/
I like a lot of her work -- Marilie Jacob
www.mariliejacob.com/

How many hours a week do you dedicate to this hobby?
Several hours a day.

Is this more than your hobby? Is it your job?
It's my job, but I have a patron saint.

What other hobbies do you have?
I draw a bit. I'm wicked good in the kitchen too.

Would you like to tell us a little bit more about you?
I’ve always loved jewelry and loved making things. I feel the type of jewelry I make is a cross between building something and sculpting something. I like pushing it and seeing just how far I can go with making beautiful, light, elegant sculptural pieces.

I love little gears and little moving parts. I love hardware stores and machines. So I’m often making jewelry that takes something mundane and shows it’s hidden beauty. I also love natural forms -- twigs, blossoms, seed pods, etc. I’m very inspired by the things I see on my daily walks.

I have found that while it's one thing to craft purely for the pleasure of it -- and it is very pleasurable, it's another thing to try to get to the truth about yourself and to express that clearly and uniquely through your work. If self expression is the true goal, then you must ask yourself a lot of tough questions. That can be a very personal and at times lonely journey, but also a deeply satisfying one.
